Built. Not bought.
Its a phrase that is often said in the automotive world. People love to say it. But how much of their car was actually built? We at Dumpybutts like to think that a handful of bolt-ons and wheels doesn’t constitute as built. Putting in the hours planning, designing, fabricating, and tweaking parts; going against the norm, that’s built, and thats what we love.
Words: Anthony Marsiglia
Snaps: Jason Babin
Brandon’s 1991 Toyota MR2 is the definition of the term, built, not bought. In fact, in the old barn on Brandon’s families property in Ragley, La, everything short of the intake manifold, and your usual do-dads; were built by him and good friend Matt Alcock. From the custom rear coilovers, to the home built twinscroll turbo manifold, almost nothing wasn’t made their own. When you’re running at the speeds these guys are going, you pay attention to detail, and only trust a few.
Claiming the title of highest horsepower MR2 in the country, this car comes in making 921hp to the wheels. While that number is impressive, what really makes this car special is the boosted K20a2 power plant; sorry not sorry 3S-GTE fans. Brandon has been a long time Honda fan, and coming from a 700hp civic, it was only logical to take what he already knows and incorporate it into another platform.
Never satisfied, Brandon will continue to tweak things in preparation for TX2K15 in March, where he will continue to break hearts and hopefully keep his undefeated record. Brandon wants to thank Matt, for having the balls to stay filming at 190mph. You can watch the MR2 in action on Brandons YouTube page. https://www.youtube.com/user/beerad12
