I mean you can open it up and look at the gears and syncros before you buy it is another thing, but you gotta be able to pull it apart and inspect it or have someone you know pull it apart and look at it for you.
But mostly its an iffy situation. I brought an A2 trans without opening it up before I brought it a couple weeks ago from a local guy (I knew him cause of local car meets). But he told me the trans was in perfectly running shape, stock A2 gears, and quaife LSD......... Trans was in pretty good shape and did have quaife LSD, but did not have 4.3FD, it came with 4.7FD, and 4th gear has a very slight gear whine to it...... But I mean for the price I got it at I really couldn't bitch because it was a COMPLETE steal so MEH
