Ha good stuff
Got an appointment for Thursday at 330 to get my car inspected and the tires mounted to the XXR's finally :waiting:
XXR 527's 17*8.25 +35 In black chromium with 245/40/17 Donlop star specs

Nice, love the mean deals. Its so weird how xxr uses .25" and .75 for their wheels btw, never understood that.
Me either honestly but they look okay so o well

Some updates about my car...the innevitable finally happend..and i screwed up a transmission, but i didn't break a gear at least
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NEBbU...&feature=youtu
I already took the trans out and broke it down, the collar for 3/4 is ruined. The synchro just didn't engage the gear and it annihilated the collar teeth so the collar can't slide from 3/4 easily enough. On top of that, my 3rd gear has serious stress marks so i am gonna put in an ep3 trans. I will post pictures tonight
On top of that, my downpipe also cracked so i will bet getting full hasports 75a mounts and re-welding the DP...i knew i heard an exhaust leak
Semi plus side...until i found out i couldn't get them on right now.

The lug nuts i got NG-r's don't quite work for me, i need spline or narrower lugs to fit. So these also won't be going on for a bit longer.
Yeah they look good which makes me happy, the post before that however makes me one sad banana
Sadbanana. Sorry to hear about the gear situation, at least you'll be upgrading with the ep3 trans. And the wheels and tires look dope! Lots of meat, love tuose direzzas. I just don't want to take my perfectly fine N3000's off and buy those. Hmm, we'll see. If you can, please document/record your tranny swap for the rest of us/future users. When will you be doing the swap?
:yeathat: what size tire are they. I'm almost to the point where I'll be needing new fronts. And I've been eyeing these for some time.

He has 245/40/17 star spec z1's on 8.25'' wide rims. I fit 235/40/17 star spec z1's on my stock rim (7'' wide) just fine.
Well, the trans is already out of my car and broken down actually. Thats how i know the issue is the collar. I am shooting to have the car done by the end of this week. I will try to get as many pictures as I can but its already a long and drawn out process. (although it give me the chance to show off my 4 megapixel camera with ultra pixle technology :giggle: ) I will see what i can do though. Currently i am waiting on a bearing for the countershaft.
Almk nailed it!
Got a little done today:
Pressed 6th gear off the stock trans

Better view...kinda
http://i901.photobucket.com/albums/a...g?t=1368063416
4th gear on the ep3 trans had a small nick so i replaced that gear
http://i901.photobucket.com/albums/a...g?t=1368063427
Done and done...gear set fully assembled
http://i901.photobucket.com/albums/a...g?t=1368063432
You are correct that you must use the same ratio gear on both the main/ countershaft. I am using the ep3 4th on both. When this gear set was shipped to me the counter shaft 4th had the nic in the picture. The seller was nice enough to send me a replacement gear. Thats what i put on to replace the damaged one.
I agree, but better packaging the first time around would have prevented it. I was a bit angry about it, but at least he did the right thing and replaced the part that was damaged.
Now i just need to get the other countershaft bearing in, replace the axle seals, swap the ring gear to the LSD, seal the trans, get the flywheel resurfaced, install the clutch, pull the downpipe to get welded then drink some beer....Should keep me entertained tomorrow and Saturday.
Wow, all these tranny pics/rebuilds amd chatter has me more comfy with changing my tranny. And I still have no idea how to change anything tranny wise. But I sure don't feel as bad about it lmao.
Thanks for taking and posting pics, I really wanna get a "fact sheet" sticky going that has all the notes you need for a swap. For example, that the mainshaft gear and countershaft gear have to be the same ratio (can't use ep3 and Si unless the ratio is the same, for example)
If you can drop the trans you can easily rebuild it, it really is fantastically easy when you actually dive in. Things really can't go on in the wrong order and if they do, they won't line up and the issue will be obvious.
If you get an ep3 trans you can literally drop it right in, i made it complicated because originally i put the Ep3 gears on a 4.3 final drive. I decided that was a bit TOOOOOOOOOOO long for me. So i am now using the 4.7 FD that added a bit more work to my swap. If you get the gears and FD you want it will slide right in.
Some good tips though
4.3 FD needs this bearing HON-91003-PPT-004
4.7 FD needs this bearing HON-91003-PPP-004
You need to space out the speed sensor with 2-3 washers when using the rsx or EP3 gears in a z3 case.
Ok thanks!
Whelp, a bit of an update...got some stuff in the mail
http://i901.photobucket.com/albums/a...psee0f37ac.jpg
Got full hasport mounts 75a
Thanks Asdf!

The third little box in the picture is the countershaft bearing!
Finally got eveything together again...
Ep3 trans with out stock 6th gear (i didn't have time to get a longer sixth :hiding:)

All together...don't really wanna see this guy on the bench anytime soon
http://i901.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps05dc3349.jpg
Everything in the pics is already on the car. I am waiting for shift cables then the car will be golden. :waiting:
He got stock replacements.
Nice
So you're running a 5-speed now? Or are you using an oem 6th?
Hows everything, hopefully back together?
He is on a 5 speed now, but it sounds like the 5 speed he got was put together with a bunch of beat up transmissions and isn't working too well for him. He his going to replace the third gear in his old 6 speed and go back to that with the 4.3 fd. He's in OCMD this weekend, prob won't be on here!
Whelp a bit of an update. I have about 35 miles on the new trans and things are feeling good so far. The vibrations my car makes are less but still kinda more than i expected...also the throw out bearing is a bit loud...o well
I also washed / claybar'ed/ paste waxed my car for the first time ever :hiding: Decent results were had

Looks great! Great detail job and the car sits so aggressive! What wheels and tires are those, and what size are they?
