I was looking into this but decided I would be kicking myself if I ended up blowing the motor afterwards when I could have just gone sleeved for another $800 for the peace of mind.

morning gents. Quick question, about to buy a ep3 tranny tomorrow but the guy says it won't go into 4th gear. Before i do some google searching, anyone know what can cause that? Im not very savvy when it comes to transmissions
Lol

I honestly couldn't tell you. I don't touch mine. Since I don't ever wanna have to have to remove it like immediately after I put it on because I forgot something I usually let someone who knows trannys do it. Hate taking that thing out...

I completely agree with you. I figured now is a good time to learn on a transmission buy taking it apart and fixing what needs to be fixed (preventive care) since i dont want to have to drop it for looooong time after its in the car. Its just unfortunate that there is no one local that i could fully trust with a transmission
naw not as baller as what you guys are running. lol

You'll want to build it if you don't plan on taking it out for a while. Base 5 speed gears Sen to hold up better then most but even my trans is having issues and I just finished the Damn thing.

lol I want to do a blower setup!!!! I want to here dis bitch whine!
Won't go into second with the motor off? Sounds like a shift fork over a synchro, but I would think that same shift fork would prevent it from going into 3rd as well.
I think the problem will be obvious once you open the trans. You'll see either a broken fork, or the synchro's teeth will be fucked up or the gear's engagement teeth may be sheered off or no longer have a nice cut to them.
The fork is not very hard to replace and neither are the synchros and all the bearings. For the synchros and bearings you just need a press. There is a really nice write up on 8th civic detailing the transmission tear down.
