Dude so sick!!! That's a collectors car and your typing it apart to build it...... STREETS! LOL

Wow, that's quite a video! The car just sounds so exhausted though, old b-series I assume?
And this is quite the collector's car. Fully numbers matching, no rust, all original, interior literally looks new (considering the 50k mileage part), and only 50k on it. Taking the glass out and using lexan will be torture to the Gen 1 and 2 enthusiasts. Although I'm sure they won't mind the mint old parts.
Far faster and quicker is right. Build will have a budget, not sure what just yet though.

Now, we need to decide on the most crucial part: the heart transplant. We also need to decide on a name for the Projekt before we move forward. And I want to move forward so let's get creative with Projekt names!!
Motor and tranny discussion will follow.
This is AWESOME! That car is the perfect chassis. Weighs 1500 lbs according to my research... And this specific one having no rust is crazy. Gonna be a fast car. Project name...... Project:Relic
Some more pictures, waiting for some poor weather before moving forward. Have a red-top Optima battery I'll be throwing in to get a good analysis of everything. Here's more shots:

Will ya look at thattt just look at it will ya ...a carburetor lol don't see many of those still around on Hondas that pic reminds me of my first car it was a carb'd 1237 cc a little older than the car you just bought it made a whopping 65 hp I think it was a terd but I loved that little car anyway it was my first car .
Cant believe its matching numbers and all and your gona tear it up, lol it hurts my heart. Still looking forward to it haha
much respect to this build to come

It's fun! I'll actually be charging the battery overnight, and tinker with the car tomorrow if the weather holds up. Came with a new car dontchya know! I'll need to drop the gas tank and likely blow out the fuel line(s). Metal gas tanks are a sure thing of the past.
As for your old Honda, I'm not that far ahead of you at 67hp! 2hp on a 1500hp car should definitely be noticeable on the butt dyno. Got any pics of it? Great first car!
Well, they say the demolition is half the fun! The end result will be nutty though. Very excited. Just need a good projekt name before moving forward to figure out what motor is best!
Thank you very much!
Very nice find!
We are on board to help.
When is the engine going to be added to the thread?
LOL I was gonna link that video haha How long has the car ya bought been sitting ? I still have a metal tank in my car and your right everything is plastic these days .I actually don't have any pics of my first car as it was a 1977 civic hatch that I bought in 1986 lol remember I'm old and cell phones were not in everyone's pocket back then like they are now with cameras. Hell we still had Polaroids that ya had to wait for the pic to develop after it came out of the bottom of the camera haha here is what the car looked like though
http://i540.photobucket.com/albums/g...ps909ec278.jpg
it was a 2 speed Hondamatic only had 2 gears I use to run 1 st to 55 mph then 2 nd I blew up 4 engines in 240,000 miles but could change em out in mere hours lol I am trying to think of a good name to suggest for this project but am drawing a blank right now .
Thanks! Not sure yet, that's what's next to decide. First will be the battle of K20 or K24, and second will be attaining one.
She's an original beaut! You blew up 4 engines back then? Some things just never change. ;)
I'm not sure how long the car sat, but the big fuel pump and metal tank part should be fun.
A k-something and boosting it, yes. We will have a hell of a manifold to show the world how it's done!
What K-series motor should we go with and why? Please be elaborate with your responses.
The car is going to be drag car right? If so, I think a k20 would be the best bet as you can rev much higher and you won't really need the extra .4 ltr of displacement from the k24 and boost will make up for that and then some. IMO the k20 is better for a turbo almost entirely because it can rev higher.
K 20 higher revving will make more power than you'll ever need !
I would like Jaydee's opinion on this. And VitViper dkpr87 stage2auto

Whichever power plant and uh lots of Booooooooooooooooost! looks good man, good stuff!
To each his own honestly, it all really depends on what your goals are with the build. Personally, i plan on toying with a 2.2 Destroked K24 for my next build once this block goes, or just a plain jane K20 built to the T.
With my build it's all about using the most out of the powerband as possible, so it all depends on what your goal is.
I've seen Jaydee's build, and it's SICK! i'd certainly be in to hear his opinions!
Anyone thinking about a thicker head gasket on a stock motor? Also, vdubkilla what did we talk about at MIR with that energizer bunny K20 you had? You mentioned you swapped each head stud individually, so the motor was never opened up. And some other goodies. Remember?
You just pull the cams and then just remove one head bolt , install new head stud torque it and repeat the process til all the head bolts have been replaced with head studs just do it one at a time .Then re install the cams you never pull the head .

And like stated before i think the decision of the goals for the build need to be set first before you decide on what motor set up to go with and all the good stuff that comes with it.
If it was me, i would decide on the goals for the car long and short term, and the budget. Then i think its easier to set everything else up for the build.
By short and long term goals i mean if your budget allows you to accomplish your ultimate goal for the build from the start then there is no need for a short term. How ever if for example, your ultimate goal is a 9 second car but the budget only allows for mid 10 second power levels then you have your short and long and you can build accordingly so that you don't have to go back and spend double the money rather then just upgrade. I hope it makes sense lol
I've never heard of modifying a k series timing chain :wtf: .As far as the head studs I used that procedure on my stock engine and it worked fine we threw 26 lbs at it with no problems. We also installed dual valve springs , seats , retainers and seals without pulling the head .
I would imagine on paper it should be in or damn close but as i know you know its not all about the hp. I didn't mean 9 for the drag car or not just used it as a example but yes, i think once you set your mind on what the ultimate goal is for the car then the real planning will be easier.
Also gotta think about what class you are thinking about running, there will always be limitations on min. weight turbo size types of glass tire size blah blah blah the list goes on. just food for thought
What I would like to do first is build the front end first- motor, tranny, radiator, front mount, the works. Also, new strut towers, front suspension, etc. To compliment that, the front end will be reinforced with the beginnings of the roll-cage, which will end at the interior for future progression. I want the car to be ready this coming year, so it will definitely be a street car at first. I don't mind keeping it stock internals with the method that vdubkilla mentioned, to see how well the car will do with traction and get a real feel for it. I'd rather put the money to build the trans before internals on the motor.
I would think so :turbohug: the 9 second pass that is
Debating on building this car. The more I research it, the more rare it becomes. Cost is also a big part of the process. A friend of mine knows the person who built the K-swapped 79 Civic. He said it would cost 30-50k, which is out of budget for sure. And with that price tag, I would rather Kswap an NSX (which was my first choice).
As of right now, my focus is on getting this car running with the original motor and tranny, and going from there. As of today, I temporarily fixed the window. It dropped during the previous owner's possession. It's all messed up internally - rust, broken parts, etc. But I temporarily rigged it so it will shut and seal - but can't be opened. Also, I am dropping the tank to see what I'm working with because the car is getting no fuel. Bought a new fuel pump, which I will swap in once I clean this tank out tomorrow. Looking forward to some more fun within the next week or 2.

so knowing what you know now are you going to go through with the project?
Sorry I missed this Ryan. Holidays and the new year got the best of me.
Knowing what I know now, I may not go through with the project for this car. And this is for multiple reasons: I've always been into cars, bikes, motors, racing, the entire scene since I was a kid. I used to race people daily on my BMX Bike, compete in bike jumps (flatland, vert, some awesome dirt jumps people built) - I've always been into racing, speed, and competition. My point is that if I don't build this, I will definitely build something. This build might just be too much of a stretch to build financially, not that other builds would be much cheaper but buying a roller might be easier overall. I don't have the facility I need to get what I need done on this car. And I've fallen in love with this car. There's just something about it. But stay tuned. I will post the build details regardless if it's a track car or a restoration.
No worries, holidays are for family time :) and I completely understand you. The last build i saw with the same platform was practically all custom built except for the chassis itself. It was undeniably gorgeous and a jaw-dropping, but the time and money spent into making it that was was, in my opinion, too much. Me personally, i would a restore job on the civic (love the way the civic looks too much to scrap it) and find another project roller that has been tried and trued. Say.... MR2 kswap :)
