I had the q300 and now I got the FR and they sound about the same. Nice build also, I wish we had 93 octane!

@Spoolin_VTEC I realized that im an idiot and was trying to line up the timing marks from a k20z3 block onto the timing marks of a k20a block. They are off by 3/8ths of an inch because the k20a uses a smaller crank pulley...All is well now haha
Ksboi, yea i really like the q300, it might only be 70mm but it makes great power and the sound is awesome. Full race sounds good on a turbo car but o well 6mm isn't worth 200 more bucks in my eyes.
If your q300 becomes a flow restriction as you get way up in power you can always go open downpipe :)
You have heard my open dump, can you even imagine what an open downpipe would sound like! I actually did drive my car once without the exhaust on at all, its very rumblely and deep i didn't go over 2500rpms though. Wot would be insane.
Haha I want to go around open downpipe on mine for like a day just for the experience.
Open downpipe? Lol what did you say? Huh? I can't hear you lol

@almk, I really want to talk to derek from IMW about recirculating mine. I like how it roars but the noise is just a little crazy for me. I guess im like a 50 year old man that likes peace and quite but i love quite cars so much haha.
@vtecfred...nailed it haha
Why do quotes not work on this site??!?!?!?
I wouldn't get it recirc'd my mechanic spoke about how they (rsx's) gained like 30whp from going from recirc to open dump. So I'd imagine you would lose power doing this. At least with open dump you only hear it at full throttle. Open downpipe would be crazy loud all the time.
I have open dump doesn't bother me.

Wow that's something im gonna look into Almk, can't believe it would reduce so much power but time for more research!
Started the intake manifold since im waiting for some stuff to arrive tomorrow!
Got all the extra studs lettering and dimples grinded down

Is that all you need to polish? Sand paper and lots of time?
Depends how you do it, but basically. I am using a drill/dremel and its really not that bad, when i get to the small areas that need hand sanding im sure it will suck. But 80-2000 grit sand paper some polish and some time is all it takes... i have about 2-3 hours into mine...over half of it is sanded down past the pitting from casting already...im thinking 10 hours with power tools total but we will see
Damn, that is a lot of time, but it looks amazing after its done. My IM looks like shit, its really ditry, actually most of my engine bay looks pretty shitty :( but at least the car drives well :)
Haha yea that's hoe mine was it was really dirty. Im gonna clean it a bit while the engine is out but I really don't care that much. I don't do many cosmetic mods but danny painted my valve cover and I didn't want the ugly manifold ruining my bay haha

Yeah my ugly manifold kinda ruins my bay. You can see it at dyno day. Also the outside of my car is far from mint. O well
Have you seen Spaz's IM he worked on? Check it out if you haven't
^I have not Ill look into that!!
Slowly but surely making progress! for the rest of the day i have to finish my homework :sadbanana: And tomorrow i have class but the transmission will be finished Tuesday, and it should go in Wednesday...then a few finishing projects for completion!!!

Do you know anyone that got their gears cryogenically treated? I'm interested to find out how they are holding up.

I'm the only person that i know that has actually done it. I hear about it all over the forums and then no one actually did it yet. Its pretty cheap if it works it would be awesome!
That's what I'm thinking :D

Ill keep my threads updated on how they hold out. I asked the company that i went through (nitrofreeze) how much it would increase strength, but all they said was they have never tested it. They did say they have been told it can increase gear strength by 20%+...we will see what that equates to after some hard driving
I'm pretty sure roger had a gear set of his cryo treated before moving onto an after market set. Roger is the SRT 'shop car' owner.
Sorry for the glare. Only had my cellphone outside

got the gears/syncros/tranny shafts all pressed together as well as the new bearings on the LSD and final drive torqued back on!

i was talking to a few people who have them cryotreated in Az and it said it makes them stronger like you stated but I was wondering what about shot peening them. I used to work at a plant that we used to shotpeen pipes and other parts to make them stronger and then after that have them cryo treated. Its a fairly cheap process I wonder how they hold up. I know cryo add 30-40 percent and shotpeening add about 20 percent.
Not going to lie to you here, i have never heard of shotpeening before, but i am very glad to hear that other people have tried cryno treating. I researched pretty hard to find people that did it and came up with nothing. Maybe its people that do it locally and never wright about it online haha. Also if you got a full race for 350 you did good, i got mine for 425 off someone local when i had mine.
Nearly all fatigue and stress corrosion failures originate at the surface of a part, but cracks will not initiate or propagate in a compressively stressed zone. Because the overlapping dimples from shot peening create a uniform layer of compressive stress at metal surfaces, shot peening provides considerable increases in part life. Compressive stresses are beneficial in increasing resistance to fatigue failures, corrosion fatigue, stress corrosion cracking, hydrogen assisted cracking, fretting, galling and erosion caused by cavitation.
I love it when someone talks dirty :)
Can someone verify with jotech that the indeed have cryogenically treated gears with success ?

@ksboi, i looked into shotpeening and it really dose look fantastic, maybe it will be something that i can also try down the road, is there a company you would suggest? currently i can't do this or i would but i need my car finished by Monday to make my tuning appointment at IMW
Also Vtecfred, Jo-tech no longer treats their gears when they do a transmission at least they said they didn't when i asked, maybe they do and they just want to keep it under wraps, but i do know St8JDM, who i believes has one of their treated trannys is running with 560-580whp and beats his car and its been holding up great for him everytime i talk to him.
First start guys!

Break in time!! Whats your break in procedure?
His motor is already broken in since he bought it used.
What ALMK said, My shortblock had 2k miles on it before i used it, Needed about 5 minutes for the vavles to seat. I will be changing the oil after i get it tuned Wednesday.
I used a local company in ks but almost any company that deals with airplanes has a machine. Congrats on the start up!!!
