So we decided that it would be better to weld everything verses weld some and mud some... so I spent the first part of the night trying to remove all the filler we had previously laid
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-14164806.jpg
then cleaned so we could weld
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-14164737.jpg
had a lot of troubles with the welder. I had to go get a new tank of gas an then had to go get new rod as I ran out of both... then we couldn't get the welder adjusted correctly at first so it was welding like crap. We eventually got everything smoothed out and it started welding smoother
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-14172541.jpg
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-14171245.jpg
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-14200839.jpg
spent hours grinding lol
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-14212832.jpg
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-14212819.jpg
I know it looks rough... my back was hurting
and then welded up the other side after I cleaned out the filler
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-14212755.jpg
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-14212805.jpg
as she sits
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-14212850.jpg
Looks great. Make me want to learn how to weld.
So I spent around 5 hours today working on the damn car... man this is a lot of work... and I feel like I haven't even made a dent in it!
so here was where I started
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-15123825.jpg
pain in the ass and no where done
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-15142949.jpg
started griding and didn't like how it was looking
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-15123835.jpg
so I, yes I, rewelded it.
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-15162704.jpg
also rewelded the bottom of this section
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-15163044.jpg
and added more filler to the side
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-15163121.jpg
then started focusing on the other side
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-15143054.jpg
grinded down
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-15163222.jpg
started the sides
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-15143107.jpg
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-15163211.jpg
and spent a lot of time here
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-15143117.jpg
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-15163135.jpg
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-15163144.jpg
hard to tell but it's looking great IMO. Some filler will clean it up alot and smooth it out great!
So I took a break from the bay today and focused on my engine. I just wanted to seperate it from the trans and get it on a stand. I will start working on it from here now
So here is what I started with:
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-22135838.jpg
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-22135901.jpg
Then I started pulling off the supercharger, harness and misc
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-22143124.jpg
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-22143136.jpg
and to be safe started boxing up all my parts lying around
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-22145748.jpg
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-22145808.jpg
Busted the engine hoist back out
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-22151537.jpg
lifted her up so I could take the trans off
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-22151952.jpg
then pulled the trans off
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-22154459.jpg
threw it up on the stand
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-22163127.jpg
and done
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-22163149.jpg
this engine bay with be the death of me... the more work I do the further I feel from done lol
So I had a crazy awesome idea... instead of playing Mechanic last night I decided to follow in the footsteps of Jesus and be a carpenter...
So I called up a buddy cause he said he would definitely be in for helping me and we went to home depot. We picked up some sheets of 3/4" MDF board.
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-26205545.jpg
Time to start our measurements. Right now you're wondering... what are we building?! lol It's simple!
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-26213019.jpg
So we made a couple of cuts with the circular saw and we were on our way. Then got out the sqaure, some drill bits, screws and wood glue.
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-26215123.jpg
Not a bad start... lets keep going with this monster box!
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-26220905.jpg
Alright so what the hell is it already?! Well I have been spending a lot of time in the garage and nothing pisses me off more than my loud ass noisey air compressor going nuts while I grind and cut and etc. So I decided what if I built a large box around it to compress the sound and function as a new work counter! So...
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-26222832.jpg
Now time to build a top
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-26224309.jpg
damn this is a BIG box!
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-26225600.jpg
since the box is so strong and sturdy I'm gonna hook up my hose reel to it. So mark off my holes
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-26234541.jpg
drill and attach!
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-26235206.jpg
Box is pretty much finished... time to try it out!
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-27002024.jpg
shit ya! And it's strong enough to place the welder on it and anything else I can throw at it lol
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-27002629.jpg
I'm not fully finished but it was late 1 am when we were done to this point. I am going to fill up any cracks with filler and sand it smooth. I'm also going to do something special for the top so it's sealed and water proof for oil mess and etc. . . Also I'm gonna paint the box or something and then probably sticker bomb it! lol
Either way the most important part... I wish I would have taken a sound clip but OMG then compressor sound we eliminated GREATLY!!! I can won't have to wear ear plugs, I could still carry a conversation, and hear my music without being blasted like crazy! I'm so excited to work on the car tonight now!
That's awesome man. It's a great use if space bow especially when you seal it. You could even attach a piece of sheet metal to the top so you wouldn't have to use a wood sealer. And you could do that finish on I with a angle grinder. Just a thought.
redid my FPR again today while I'm finished up welding.
So I made a template
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-27170054.jpg
cut it out
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-27170349.jpg
smoothed it out
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-27171631.jpg
drilled the holes
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-27172036.jpg
test it out
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-27172557.jpg
bolted it where I'm running it
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-27172839.jpg
welded it quick
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-27173335.jpg
and sanded it down
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-27175157.jpg
I'll clean it up more later when I get to this side. Phillip went to town starting the driver side and I must say HOT DAMN
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-28161318.jpg
it is so smooth and gonna look sick
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...1-28161337.jpg
Absolutely can't wait to see it until it's finished. Great progress so far man, did you decide on a bay/under hood color yet?
So started pulling out my interior too....
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...2-04185313.jpg
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...2-04185335.jpg
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...2-04190827.jpg
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...2-04190817.jpg
pull out the backs next
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...2-04192357.jpg
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...2-04195430.jpg
poor car lol
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...2-04195352.jpg
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...2-04202446.jpg
Here are all of my bars lol
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...2-04205935.jpg
Spent four hours in the emergency room last night. Went to the hospital around 10 and didn't get home till 2:15am this morning.... couple xrays, some shots and lots of pain.
They say I have Pleuritis. It's in inflammation of the pleura. Thats the tissue around the lungs I guess? I can't breathe in deep or turn my body or its hurts and feels like a sharp pain as if I had a broken rib.
But that didn't stop me from being a car nut! I came home at 2:15am and at 8am I was up and in the garage working on the car.. luckily they gave me some shots to relieve the pain
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...2-11153621.jpg
notice my sweet medical bracelet lol
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...2-11105637.jpg
haha anyways
Phil cam down again and we kept on moving along
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...2-11105617.jpg
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...2-11143222.jpg
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...2-11143158.jpg
I started cleaning out this crap. I'm going to weld it closed this week
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...2-11112425.jpg
and then I started filling in the dimples on the firewall
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...2-11153728.jpg
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...2-11153911.jpg
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...2-11153919.jpg
damn theres a lot of random dimples
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...2-11154340.jpg
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...2-11155204.jpg
and I also started sanding off the paint to start work on the passenger side
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...2-11143135.jpg
like a giant green booger lol Waiting to dry so we can sand it down
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...2-11112411.jpg
Damn man sorry to hear about your hospital visit. And yes that's crazy you still went to work on your car. Lol
Hope you get well soon.
Spent 6 hours in the garage today................. my fingers tried to commit suicide to get out of sanding
Anyways here is some of the firewall
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...2-26130112.jpg
and then I did some more filling to smooth it more
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...2-26142748.jpg
I think the back wall is going to turn out good. And the corner is a bitch but looking good
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...2-26130119.jpg
Spent a lot of time on the driver side today
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...2-26134403.jpg
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...2-26130147.jpg
and more fill/sanding
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...2-26142740.jpg
finally almost done
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...2-26173251.jpg
did some filling on the passenger side strut tower
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...2-26130129.jpg
also worked in this bitch of a corner
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...2-26134353.jpg
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...2-26173300.jpg
and finally some other misc parts
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...2-26142800.jpg
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...2-26142808.jpg
Its crazy how the hours just add up doing one thing that only certian people will appreciate ehh? Looks great. Patience is a vertue.
:yeahthat: Awesome progress Spaz, I absolutely can't wait to see what it looks when it's finally finished man
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...baygreenvc.jpg
any thoughts?
Did some more sanding today.... will spend all day tomorrow on the car
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...3-03185813.jpg
I fucking hate this area
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...3-03185805.jpg
and the firewall is pretty much done
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...3-03185822.jpg
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...3-03185831.jpg
where she currently sits
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...3-03185842.jpg
Alright so after brushing off my hangover I got out to the garage to keep working
First I laid down some more filler
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...3-04163243.jpg
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...3-04163252.jpg
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...3-04163236.jpg
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...3-04163229.jpg
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...3-04163218.jpg
And no joke while on break to let this dry... had an argument with my now current EX girlfriend who said "I spend more time with Ivy (my car) than I do with her..." bla bla bla
And now I'm single
So gave me more time to keep sanding tonight
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...3-04201822.jpg
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...3-04201833.jpg
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...3-04201842.jpg
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...3-04201851.jpg
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...3-04163301.jpg
and only started on this side...
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...3-04201917.jpg
you definetly put in more work then i had to! Its going to look good once you're done
Did you remove any seam sealer and re weld? The candy looking red would look good for sure, especially with the red interior pieces
I removed ALL of the seam sealer and welded it all up shut
I wanted to say... my girl Ivy was on the cover of the magazine... what have you done?! But she was already pissed enough lol I truthfully don't mind being single at all... cheaper, less stressful and more time lol
Well I ran out of heat... and I was in the groove so I didn't stop but now it's to cold and the store I go to is closed by now.
So I finished the motor mount side
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...3-05202409.jpg
did some more cleaning on this side
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...3-05202428.jpg
But spent most of my time on this side..... FML
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...3-05202443.jpg
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...3-05202456.jpg
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...3-05202515.jpg
ALMOST FINISHED
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...3-05202505.jpg
It sucks spending so much time in one corner or spot. I dreaded behind my strut towers, absolutly hated it. When ever i was sanding id try to avoid those sections arrggg
It looks good, can't wait to see it primed and painted.
Damn spaz, putting in WORK! Huge rep given for doing so much work, it's well worth it though. And you're head is in the right place - women make us lose hair and money. Which will most likely happen as we grow old, but why accelerate the process?
wasn't feeling good so I didn't do to much.... just some minor sanding and then filling
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...3-06174541.jpg
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...3-06174548.jpg
filler started getting hard... I was working to slow. lol
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...3-06174556.jpg
Updates?
^^^i second that^^^
Also congrats on making the cover of the magazine! I don't believe I had said that yet. Your have an amazing car. Keep up the great work.
And I third that. :giggle:
:iptf:
Tomorrow I hope to be done with most of the finishing sanding. I will take some photos and update after that. Then I will be using some finishing putty to fill in some bubbles and etc. I hope to have it in primer next week :wiggle::wiggle::wiggle:
Thank you about Honda Tuning... it's truly an amazing achievement and a great feeling
:yeahthat: What color will the bay be? Or is it a surprise for the next magazine cover/feature?
oh snap........... Thank you Derek at All in Fab !!!
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...3-28195253.jpg
Fully shaved valve cover with AN lines
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...3-28195542.jpg
no more side breather
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...3-28195551.jpg
no more honda logo... funny thing is I bought a Honda valve cover and forgot I told him to shave it lol could have bought a cheaper Acura/Honda one :face:
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...3-28195559.jpg
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...3-28195608.jpg
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/a...3-28195642.jpg
hopefully my other parts come in
How much did all in fab charge you?
Love the VC. Derek does great work. What color are you going to paint/powdercoat it?
Sticker bomb it!!
