The narrative that no one cares about:

This build will be started due to the failure of a rod bearing, motor was still salvageable, wish I could say the same for the crank.
Will not be doing a crazy build or nun like that, simple and clean, no need to blow 10k.
So with that being said subscribe, check back frequently and feel free to give input, and/or criticism. Sit back and enjoy my work.

I wish they had an e 85 station around here and ya don't see to many ep3's making big power .I think you'll make your goal on the e 85 though and that'll be a blast to drive and I'm in for the build progress :thumb:.

Soon after the teardown I made my decision to go through with the build, brainstormed with my tuner on what setup would suit my goal in power level and started searching for the parts I needed. Came across a deal I couldnt refuse!!

JE 86.5mm pistons 10:5:1 compression ratio
JE wristpins
Eagle H-beam rods ARP rodbolts
ACL STD thrust washers

Is your turbo manifold a k-tuned manifold? What is the bradpenn fluid used for? Trans? What are your plans for the fuel system?

No its a Fabworx manifold.

BradPenn is for engine oil. Good grade stuff

Fuel syst will all be upgraded.

Bradpenn.. great stuff and its green :P

I made 505 on 18psi on a 6265 91 pump. at 20 psi on e85 you shouldnt have any problem at 600. :)

^^^ thanks...

Yea looking forward to settle @ 600hp. Will look into having a pump tune and race gas for the weekend nights out. All depends on what my tuner suggests

Not too long ago a pretty important package made its way to my hands, after being lost for 48 hours at the local UPS facility after a 5 day journey from its origin.
More power calls for heavier duty clutch system.

Yea we ep3 owners are unfortunate that our cars are slow from factory, but i do understand the reason behind that.
A swapped ep3 doh is hella fun boosted or not.

Shortly after I got in contact with Ryan from AFH and he had in stock 2 GE turbo manifolds, no need for the 3-4 month wait from manufacturer. What a great opportunity to upgrade the old RBC and upgrade, not to mention he gave me a killer deal on it.
Great customer service I received from AutoFair Honda and he will now be supplying me with a bunch of parts ima need for the build, highly recommend him for any needs no matter how small nor big the order might be, he got it!!
Went ahead and threw on my fuel rail and Aeromotive A1000 fuel pressure regulator, getting ready for that fuel system. Will need new injectors and throttle body soon. :paper:

wow beautiful manifold. Do you mind sharing what those GE manifold go for price wise? :P What size TB are you going with?

I wad debating selling the polished/shaved RBC ported to 70mm in favor for a similar manifold. Looks sick.

AFH is probably one of the best companys ive ever dealt with. We're even taking a 10 hour drive at the end of the month to meet them :P Well, its on the way to the WCF event

Cool I have been running a type s pump for a while it has seen 9k rpms many times and generally sees 8800+ every time I drive the car .I have heard they begin to cavitate over 8800 but its only a few psi at 9k which probably isn't gonna hurt a thing .

That's bad ass. I'm not much of a fan of high revving but this time around ill ride her till the power curve falls.

vdubkilla
10-30-2013, 11:39 PM
I'd rev mine higher with a better oil pump and cams if it still made power past 9 k .I hope to be doin cams this winter if funds allow along with the 4 port solenoid for boost control, lower wg springs and who knows I may end up doing an ERL s2k modified pump also and rev it a little higher as I love hearing that K series scream at 9k people say it sounds like a street bike coming by their house lol .

Today i just out of the blue decided to relocate my fuse box from the driver side headlight to the passenger headlight, it made more sense due to the way the harness grommet off the firewall. Fit better too and only will have to extend 3 clips to be complete, high beam, city light, turn signal. Now the wait for RY-WORX to come and work his magic.

For the past 3+ yrs i have been boosting, driving around everywhere w/o a reinforcement bar, how foolish of me.
Thanks to a local that spared me his due to him having a JDM rebar. Now waiting for the new FMIC to arrive this week and mount it!!

Polish & balance crankshaft (with Flywheel & PP)
Resurface flywheel

Maintains higher system oil pressure- a big must for high hp motors.

Yes i was on the oem pump

Does everyone block off the squirrels? From what I've read/heard about them they can be life savers.

they are generally used in engines with forged pistons. forged pistons can dissipate heat faster/better than stock cast pistons...so in theory forged pistons don't need the squirter's to help cool them off.

also some forged piston skirts are longer than OE pistons and they can hit/damage the squirter's if they are not carefully adjusted during assembly.

What is the point of a surge tank? Not trolling, just trying to learn.

It's job is to deliver constant fuel in all situations. Hard cornering when perhaps your fuel swishes to the right side of your tank and exposes the in tank pick up. Same goes for hard acceleration and deceleration.

Ok, and the surge doesn't suffer from that because it is so small? Or because there isn't an actual pick-up in the surge tank?

Ok, and the surge doesn't suffer from that because it is so small? Or because there isn't an actual pick-up in the surge tank?

The primary fuel pump fills the surge all the way up and then delivers fuel to the rail. Exits the rail and goes back into the surge. Once the surge is full the extra fuel travels back to the tank to ensure absolutely 0 chance of leaning out from lack of fuel delivery during turns acceleration and deceleration. And the in line fuel pump sucks fuel out of the surge tank to the rail forgot to add that.

After all the work of adding the surge tank i didnt realize the tray to the diffuser was gonna interfere and needed minor trimming. All buttoned up well and all needed now is new L bracket and itll be solid again.

Not bad at all to be honest took me fairly 5 min but the biggest problem is a vent hose from the tank to the canister, that sucker there can be a PITA to do so the trick is press the 2 sides together with all your cojones and it'll pop off.

Looks great! I can't wait to get my short block back from the machine shop in a nice plastic bag like that. Those blue paper towels, are they special or just the regular shop towels you can buy pretty much anywhere? I just ask because I've always read you should use lint free towels, and I didn't know if those qualified as that or not.

Just got my cylinder head back from the machine shop, the guys did a hell of a job on it words cant descride it.
Special thanks to my tuner, hes been such a great supporter of the last minute changes and guidance to get this motor ready and waking up this monster from its deep sleep.
Head is still stock as fawk, all OEM parts on it, nothing fancy here.

K20z3 valves
K20a2 inner springs
F20c outer springs
Required retainers, seats , and keepers

So today i redid the hoses in the fuel cage assembly, the other blue ones are e85 compatible but didnt get a definite answer on them being submersible, went to my local Oreilys auto parts last night and ordered the ones i need. Picked them up today at noon and went to work on them, Ill list the part numbers below for future reference.

5/16” submersible fuel line (Gates hose part # 27093)
3/8” submersible fuel line (Gates hose part # 27097)

We got power!!!

Finally after a long deep sleep the most hated and unreliable Odyssey batt held juice. Redid the power wire with a new BWD 2gauge Heavy Duty - Type SGR/SAEJ1127 cable. It was a PITA to route but had to get done, after the fusebox relocation and what not i needed to knock this out and verify my car has power and everything still works.
Pat on the back for myself.

So today luckily i made it home on time from my Sat errands, IPS cams arrived with the dowel pin i needed to mount, torque the cylinder head down.

I wanna give a huge thanks to my tuner (Brian (Speedlab)) for putting this plan on the works and looking out for me again.

Started my sun morning by modifying the water pump housing.
Thought by removing an inch off the pcv port off would have probably cleared a M to AN fitting and a 90degree but it would still be too tight of a fitment, so that was a no go.
