I've been on the forum for a bit just have not posted a whole lot... I went 10 months on my boost Junkyz kit and stock motor and made 462/300 on 15psi . We are now in the process of doing a sidewinder kit with a comp ct4-6062 an see what kind of power it will make. Ill be running on a stock block and pump gas for the time being , but building my spare motor for big numbers. Ill post a few pictures of the car and I will try to post more as the build progresses but I'm pretty busy right now so stick with me.

List of mods

-one off Boost Junkyz front mount 2 piece turbo manifold

Yeah I'm building the motor , wiseco 11:1 compression , Manley turbo tuff rods and yeah ill run dual maps, one on pump and one on race gas. The car is still going to be my WIFE'S daily lol. I guess I should state it's a mainly female driven car. She drives it to work everyday .

Nah not on this car , I have 3 k20z3 blocks and a whole other z3 swap and 4 k-trannys so if it pops then ill sleeve a block. ill make the power on the Dyno but most likely turn it down for street use. Since even at 460 traction was pretty limited lol .

So the one you're building with 11:1 pistons will be stock sleeves?

Cool. It seems that sleeving and boring the motor to 88mm and keeping near stock compression can make great power.

you could always send your block to that company that does pressed in block guard. I forget their name, but roughly 350 dollars. They remove material and add in about 1+" guard.

It's been argued that block guards aren't that helpful. IMO either sleeve it or don't.

Yeah I would rather spend the extra money and just have it sleeved. I've read that stock sleeved have been good up to 700-750 hp so my measly 600 goal should be ok

There are lots of civics that have higher HP than me. 550 really isn't THAT extreme for the k20. Making that or more on pump gas will be the challenge. Not to take away from his build but if he uses e85 or race gas than we are in different ball games :wiggle:

There's going to be a 2.5" elbow on that vband flange and then straight off the 90 will be x2 38mm Mvs gates....I know it's not twin scroll but we want to completely eliminate creep and 76mm vs 44mm I think the 2 Mvs gates will do the trick perfectly. That's 3" of exhaust relief .

No. Each gate will open when it sees 4psi of pressure on the bottom port and you will make 4psi. If it isn't twin scroll I imagine the double gates is to prevent boost creep by having a lot more flow available for bleeding off exhaust.

That's what I figured. But single or twin scroll won't change the gate purpose TMK. Either way, they're there to prevent creep. Twin scroll is, in short, a way to distribute engine exhaust pulses. In this case, a twin scroll won't help as much because he has one long extension from the collector of the manifold to the turbo, so the exhaust gases are 'gathered' by the time they enter the turbo.

aLmk
04-27-2013, 10:51 AM
Ya I know what twin scroll is and you're right about his situation unless he put a baffle in that pipe to keep ten separate then there will be no benefit with a twin scroll turbo. If it isn't twin scroll I'm not sure why they're using 2 gates and from the looks of it one would suffice since its coming straight off the pipe with direct flow to the wastegate, kinda like how Vit's is.

1SLOWFG2
04-27-2013, 11:51 AM
Yes the two gates are to prevent creep, comp turbo actually recommend that we use two mvs(38mm) gates over a single 44mm or 60mm that's why we did that, and the idea of the exhaust gasses gathering is what we are interested to test. The dumps will shoot straight down in front of the tranny and then I will have a second set if dumps and a second downpipe that will flip and come straight out the hood eventually. Either way creep should be completely eliminated on this setup

1SLOWFG2
04-27-2013, 11:52 AM
Manifold was definately designed and built with wastegate priority coming straight off the 90 so when opened the exhaust gasses will flow straight through the gates

Exactly, the twin-scroll division isn't there anymore but I realized it cant be a twin scroll setup because of the vband. AFAIK they don't make a twin-scroll vband setup period. And two gates is to prevent creep, its as simple as that. (I dont mean that in a rude way). And I personally think that one gate (60mm) would suffice on the outer bend of one of the 90* bends, giving the gate priority. But this way should work really well, I have confidence.

Should definitely have no creep with this. I'm wondering though, the heat from the dual dump tubes in front of the tranny would increase the heat in the tranny. Maybe not much, but this is just off the top of my head. And its dual 44s, so it's a good amount.

Ah, yes they do. Very good design, they look slightly shifted instead of directly in line so it should catch some extra gases not routed out the first gate. :thumb: Boostjunky did this?

Yes it is boost Junkyz design and fab, and they are dual 38mm gates but 76mm or 3" should release plenty if exhaust lol. The gates and turbo are well above the tranny and the dumps may route down and out to the drivers side to keep the heat off the tranny still a work in progress . We shall see how she does.

Ya you should be able to run 3-4 psi all the way to redline. I know Vit's manifold only creeps one psi from 3-4 by 9k rpm even with his 850hp turbo. Yours is similar design giving wastegate priority. I like it! You guys plan to release this to the public as an option?

Manifold was definately designed and built with wastegate priority coming straight off the 90 so when opened the exhaust gasses will flow straight through the gates
Ya looks good!

Could always wrap the dump tubs/ceramic coat them. That should be plenty. Its not like they are open constantly.

Nice, and ok 76mm total still a great setup. And I realized that since the first gate is on the 90* and the second is atter it, it will be real efficient because the gases are then directed AT the second gate after the bend. Legit stuff. And definitely let me know how the dump routing goes.

Well, at least you have a lot more room than we do haha. And I have a one-off top mount turbo manifold, so it would be hard no matter what unfortunately. I gotta get a move on this stuff, I only have off work on Mondays and I always have family stuff to get done so I have no time to work on the car. And no garage to keep it in unfortunately. Blah.

What is that wiring thing going into the wheel well? Also is that intercooler the same as the one I have minus the piping coming off it. I'm wondering if I can modify it like that to make it so a bumper will fit without cutting and fix my charge pipe in wheel well issue.

Ok did you delete the AC cooler that sits in front of the radiator? I was messing with my piping today to get better clearance in my wheel well, so I had my bumper off and I was looking at mine at comparing it to your picture. I'm just curious how you got 2, 2.5'' pipes to fit in that spot right off the intercooler. I can see you removed the plastic shield thing, but even with that gone I'm not sure there would be a whole lot of room. Tough to tell in that photo if the AC cooler thing (sorry don't know technical name) is there.

Gotcha, makes sense.

And I was able to get a bit more clearance in my wheel well, and my wheel was not hitting the fender liner on a full right turn, I just hope it also has enough clearance for 15x8 wheels with 24.5x85 slicks.

No the a/c condenser is still there, after the plastic was removed I ground out the corner sheet metal and then capped and welded a plate over the ground down part of the core support for support . Hard to explain but ill see if I can find the pictures I took with my dslr .

Yea, those are correct. It also allows the turbo to spool quicker because it actually keeps your gate shut. I know you have creep, and I've read in a few places that 4-port ebc's helped/fixed it (depending on severity of creep, of course).

It functions the same yes, but the 4 port just is much more effective at actually keeping the gate shut. I doubt the change will fix your boost creep though. That is a different issue.

So it turns out comp turbo billet center housing has a built in oil restrictor, but it's only good up to 50psi and these k motors are well above that so I'm spewing oil from the ex. Housing! I'm taking the car on Tuesday to have the immobilizer programmed at the dealer, it's been like 110 here and crazy humidity with the monsoons! I don't even want to step outside after work lol.

Import face off is coming up in October and a Dyno day as well and I will be at both with the car no questions asked .

Damn, AZ heat with humidity? That BLOWS. Don't you guys usually have very little humidity? Humidity really makes it feel SOOO much hotter.

Yeah usually it's a dry heat here, but we have like a month of monsoon, a little rain here and there and it makes it humid AF for a month!

Yeah so you know exactly how I feel about going out in the garage. My garage is usually like 20 degrees hotter then outside anyway. Even with a/c unit in my garage running its still crappy .

EW. Luckily here it's been pretty mild for August. Been around mid 80s at most, which is kinda unusual for August in this area.

So what exactly lead to this?

1SLOWFG2
09-06-2013, 07:07 AM
I have no idea, the wires to my #3 injector may have been pinched and shorted the ecu out? I looked them over and found nothing but I redid the injector wiring anyway.

Been a while but I've been pretty busy. Changed my kit up and Boost Junkyz now offers an 8th gen specific sidewinder kit. No firewall touching or cutting , no cowl cutting or hitting ! I'm super happy with this new setup now hopefully I can get some tuning done and see where we end up!

Why did you change? The other one looked great too. You have a good picture of the wastegate port on the manifold? Also is that a fancy clamp connecting the charge piping and tb?

The other one was a bit too laggy for me! Boost came on like a freight train and slaughtered my trans! This shit spools like a beast! Uh I'll get a pic of the gate port I'll have to find it, I deleted all my pictures for my Hawaii trip. Yeah I have v-band clamps on my TB and my compressor housing

This setup is the same turbo? I guess the long manifold caused the delay in boost?

Also what's so bad about the DBW? I don't mind mine once it's tuned. Maybe ignorance is bliss...

1SLOWFG2
05-29-2014, 11:21 AM
Same turbo, but a single 44mm gate now. DBW isn't bad it works great once tuned, but a throttle cable TB is far more responsive. And there are great aftermarket TB options that there are not for DBW

It is but they are also made to the spec of your build, kinda like kinsler manifolds which I really want but they are stupid expensive
