Hello all! I have been on this site for well over a year and never made a car build. I got bored so i'm starting one for my second build up of this car!!!

I apologize in advanced, i don't take many pictures of my car, i will take more this time around!

The day i bought the car in march 2011:
http://i901.photobucket.com/albums/ac211/snizzletoff/car%20build/new1.jpg
http://i901.photobucket.com/albums/ac211/snizzletoff/car%20build/new2.jpg
http://i901.photobucket.com/albums/ac211/snizzletoff/car%20build/new3.jpg
I'm the skinny dude in the pictures
When i got this car the only thing i wanted was to get the HFP lip and fog lights
I thought this car was plenty fast when i got it!
I finally caught the modding bug and bought the Corsport short shifter and cable bushings and a new knob and red stitch shift boot
http://i901.photobucket.com/albums/ac211/snizzletoff/IMAG0373.jpg
Sorry for the bad picture
This is where the modding took off
Bought at CNT catted race header, injen intake, and flashpro
http://i901.photobucket.com/albums/ac211/snizzletoff/car%20build/268128_225327164167029_4852106_n.jpg
Next was a HFP suspension
http://i901.photobucket.com/albums/ac211/snizzletoff/car%20build/283277_228534550512957_539780_n.jpg
And I cleared my headlights

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wasn't long before i was bored and wanted more power...
I sold my second car 2004 eclipse gs, i kept it because it was hit while parked, i got screwed on insurance and decided to fix it myself...in the mean time i bought a new car.
Used it to buy a JRSC setup! :vtec:

Got a q300!!!
http://i901.photobucket.com/albums/ac211/snizzletoff/car%20build/sidebyside.jpg

O well I rebuilt the turbo myself! I like to learn new things

Everthing was going great until my tires started to spin while tuning! So I bought hancook v12s
The day I installed them I went for a nice ride, and slipped my clutch because the tires gripped better! I knew it was a matter of time on the stock clutch!
Dropped the subframe sorry for the bad picture!:

Transmission off, to the left is the stock clutch!

Didn’t have this set up before I got bored again and decided I wanted to part with the car and start something new!!!
I posted everything for sale!
http://i901.photobucket.com/albums/ac211/snizzletoff/IMAG0321.jpg
WHELP! After talking with some people around me and on 8thcivic I decided against it, unfortunately I sold a lot of parts…but I still had most of them!
I will reserve the next post for my next big power build!

Awesome build! Glad you finally made it. You'll definitely need some new tires again, but this time I'd suggest a 235/40 minimum. Keep us updated, the build looks very promising!

Great build but I would ditch that Q300. I had the same thing and it just a bit to small for turbos. Also why did you pick 9:1 compression ratio?

aLmk
08-26-2012, 10:36 AM
That ratio can be good for boost, allowing him to run more timing and boost. Also the whole motor was for sale on the 8th for a very good price and very low miles.

Sub'd and good luck! Along with Si speed I suggest 235/40 tires you can fit them on your stock wheels. I love my star specs, so I'd definitely recommend.

Im keeping my q300, I made 417 with it at 11.5psi. i think i will do just fine with it. the extra 6mm are not worth the extra sound of any other exhaust. As almk said, i got a steal on a built shortblock, it came with 9:1 pistons otherwise i would have ran 10:1

Started breaking down the old engine, got everything off of it. Broke down the head as well, should be installing the new vavle train Tuesday.

I also have some sad news, my clutch case is broken and will need replaced it has tons of cracks throughout the case. I found one for sale on clubrsx that i hope i can pick up.

I have a question/ issue about timing. It is impossible for me to get my crank pully to match up with everything.
Below you will see the TDC marks on the cams are lined up
http://i901.photobucket.com/albums/ac211/snizzletoff/car%20build/IMAG0440.jpg
The sproket that goes to the oilpump and crank is lined up perfectly with the block and all the colored links on the timing chain line up with the cams and crank sproket
http://i901.photobucket.com/albums/ac211/snizzletoff/car%20build/IMAG0443.jpg
BUT! the crank isn't lined up at all (suppose to use the white mark not the red one

Oem cp? Meaning the one that came off that particular motor. And is it a k24/20 frank motor?

snizzletoff
09-04-2012, 12:28 PM
Oem k20z3 crank pulley installed. VTC has not been adjusted in anyway and is still at factory settings. I lined up the 3 marks on the timing chain to the marks on the 3 gears (2 cam gear marks, 1 crank gear mark) If i just look that these the tming looks spot on, its when the crank pulley goes on that it looks WAY off. K20a2 block with k20z3 head.

snizzletoff
09-04-2012, 01:25 PM
Just looked into this seems ADM_RSX was onto something, the rsx pulley is 3/8 of an inch smaller than the k20z3's so that i would assume would cause the issue i'm having. Dose this mean i should just go by the crank sprocket and ignore the pulley marks?

PetefromtheStreets
09-04-2012, 01:41 PM
The sprocket should be correct pending its from the original motor. I would think it to be correct vs the crank pulley that's not from your motor.

VTECFRED
09-04-2012, 06:53 PM
As far as I know the crankshaft pulley does not require any special alignment. It is "keyed" and cannot be aligned. At least mine was keyed and it sat where it sits :)

I looked in my service manual and it does not mention anything about aligning the crankshaft pulley with any markings.

VTECFRED
09-04-2012, 06:56 PM
Maybe it is the camera angle but on your crankshaft pulse plate I do not see the word "outside" on it. Just in case you overlooked that part it has to be flipped a certain way :ohnoes:

snizzletoff
09-04-2012, 08:51 PM
It says outside ;) You can also see where they marked it at honda when timing it at the factory!
Got the fuel cage installed today and ran the lines up to the engine. Also got the gauges in and wired, but I need my gauge pod. Just a lot of waiting on some parts then i can start wrapping things up!!

snizzletoff
09-05-2012, 06:56 AM
@Spoolin_VTEC I realized that im an idiot and was trying to line up the timing marks from a k20z3 block onto the timing marks of a k20a block. They are off by 3/8ths of an inch because the k20a uses a smaller crank pulley...All is well now haha

Ksboi, yea i really like the q300, it might only be 70mm but it makes great power and the sound is awesome. Full race sounds good on a turbo car but o well 6mm isn't worth 200 more bucks in my eyes.

aLmk
09-05-2012, 08:28 AM
If your q300 becomes a flow restriction as you get way up in power you can always go open downpipe :)

snizzletoff
09-05-2012, 08:37 AM

I wouldn't get it recirc'd my mechanic spoke about how they (rsx's) gained like 30whp from going from recirc to open dump. So I'd imagine you would lose power doing this. At least with open dump you only hear it at full throttle. Open downpipe would be crazy loud all the time.

snizzletoff
09-08-2012, 12:15 AM
Depends how you do it, but basically. I am using a drill/dremel and its really not that bad, when i get to the small areas that need hand sanding im sure it will suck. But 80-2000 grit sand paper some polish and some time is all it takes... i have about 2-3 hours into mine...over half of it is sanded down past the pitting from casting already...im thinking 10 hours with power tools total but we will see

They did say they have been told it can increase gear strength by 20%+...we will see what that equates to after some hard driving

Full race sounds good on a turbo car but o well 6mm isn't worth 200 more bucks in my eyes.

i was talking to a few people who have them cryotreated in Az and it said it makes them stronger like you stated but I was wondering what about shot peening them. I used to work at a plant that we used to shotpeen pipes and other parts to make them stronger and then after that have them cryo treated. Its a fairly cheap process I wonder how they hold up. I know cryo add 30-40 percent and shotpeening add about 20 percent.

snizzletoff
09-12-2012, 06:53 AM
Not going to lie to you here, i have never heard of shotpeening before, but i am very glad to hear that other people have tried cryno treating. I researched pretty hard to find people that did it and came up with nothing. Maybe its people that do it locally and never wright about it online haha. Also if you got a full race for 350 you did good, i got mine for 425 off someone local when i had mine.

ksboi
09-12-2012, 04:07 PM
Nearly all fatigue and stress corrosion failures originate at the surface of a part, but cracks will not initiate or propagate in a compressively stressed zone. Because the overlapping dimples from shot peening create a uniform layer of compressive stress at metal surfaces, shot peening provides considerable increases in part life. Compressive stresses are beneficial in increasing resistance to fatigue failures, corrosion fatigue, stress corrosion cracking, hydrogen assisted cracking, fretting, galling and erosion caused by cavitation.

Also Vtecfred, Jo-tech no longer treats their gears when they do a transmission at least they said they didn't when i asked, maybe they do and they just want to keep it under wraps, but i do know St8JDM, who i believes has one of their treated trannys is running with 560-580whp and beats his car and its been holding up great for him everytime i talk to him.

Thats smart, sounds like a ton of fun! Yea i've done some stuff to it so far but I have some bigger plans for the winter. Nothing in terms of a motor swap, pretty much plan to stay with the stock 50cc GET motor with light mods. If I do decide to swap, itll be a gsxr 600 rear end (motor, tranny, swingarm, wheel, wiring, etc.). Its a TON of fun though, and I sold my R1 for this thing so I jumped to the opposite end of the spectrum. Main reason I got it is because you can mod the hell out of them and they're awesome on gas. Here's a slight preview of what mine will look like.come spring.

Aside from my full winter overhaul build on the Ruckus, fixing misc odds and ends on the Si, installing the fuel return etc on the Si, and tons of studying, I'll start to look for and piece together a side tranny just incase. Whats a good thing to do in terms of looking for them at junkyards? How do they go about taking them out of the cars?

I'll get this stuff moved out of this thread btw since its off-topic and crowding the build thread

Where did I read about... a 5 speed ep3 tranny fitting in our cars? Idk if it was this thread or mot, but I want to look into a new tranny as a back up for the current one. Lets start a best bang-for-your-buck tranny thread

definatly need that thread, I can clear it up a bit. The ep3 trans is not direct bolt in the shift cable bracket bolts on differently and the speedo sensor is different. But the ep3 gears can be put directly into our case...just need a new countershaft bearing

So you know, To run at the track you need a battery box if its relocated inside the cabin/trunk.

I got this kit
http://static.summitracing.com/global/images/prod/large/sum-g1200a_w.jpg
The box is just way bigger than i expected. They have like peice of plastic you can slide in so the battery won't slide i may just expoxy that in and cut the box slightly shorter. either that or i have to mount it right behind the seat rather than off to the side of the trunk right behind the wheel well

Only thing i have been up to with the car is fawking with the ABS module. Since i installed TC my light has been on. A fault code shows for all 4 wheel sensors. Honda said my module is bad. And i can't even begin to fathom and idea as to how it could have died. I always disconnect the battery before i work on my car so i know it didn't short out. I checked all my wiring and everything is on point. Looks like i am gonna have to replace my abs module just to use TC its ridiculous

Also, i have never noticed that about my name :rotfl: its my gamertag/ nickname so i use it for everything!

Some updates about my car...the innevitable finally happend..and i screwed up a transmission, but i didn't break a gear at least
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NEBbUZkrjuY&feature=youtu

I already took the trans out and broke it down, the collar for 3/4 is ruined. The synchro just didn't engage the gear and it annihilated the collar teeth so the collar can't slide from 3/4 easily enough. On top of that, my 3rd gear has serious stress marks so i am gonna put in an ep3 trans. I will post pictures tonight

On top of that, my downpipe also cracked so i will bet getting full hasports 75a mounts and re-welding the DP...i knew i heard an exhaust leak

Well, the trans is already out of my car and broken down actually. Thats how i know the issue is the collar. I am shooting to have the car done by the end of this week. I will try to get as many pictures as I can but its already a long and drawn out process. (although it give me the chance to show off my 4 megapixel camera with ultra pixle technology :giggle: ) I will see what i can do though. Currently i am waiting on a bearing for the countershaft.

You are correct that you must use the same ratio gear on both the main/ countershaft. I am using the ep3 4th on both. When this gear set was shipped to me the counter shaft 4th had the nic in the picture. The seller was nice enough to send me a replacement gear. Thats what i put on to replace the damaged one.

I agree, but better packaging the first time around would have prevented it. I was a bit angry about it, but at least he did the right thing and replaced the part that was damaged.

Now i just need to get the other countershaft bearing in, replace the axle seals, swap the ring gear to the LSD, seal the trans, get the flywheel resurfaced, install the clutch, pull the downpipe to get welded then drink some beer....Should keep me entertained tomorrow and Saturday.

Thanks for taking and posting pics, I really wanna get a "fact sheet" sticky going that has all the notes you need for a swap. For example, that the mainshaft gear and countershaft gear have to be the same ratio (can't use ep3 and Si unless the ratio is the same, for example)

If you can drop the trans you can easily rebuild it, it really is fantastically easy when you actually dive in. Things really can't go on in the wrong order and if they do, they won't line up and the issue will be obvious.

If you get an ep3 trans you can literally drop it right in, i made it complicated because originally i put the Ep3 gears on a 4.3 final drive. I decided that was a bit TOOOOOOOOOOO long for me. So i am now using the 4.7 FD that added a bit more work to my swap. If you get the gears and FD you want it will slide right in.

Some good tips though
4.3 FD needs this bearing HON-91003-PPT-004
4.7 FD needs this bearing HON-91003-PPP-004
You need to space out the speed sensor with 2-3 washers when using the rsx or EP3 gears in a z3 case.

He is on a 5 speed now, but it sounds like the 5 speed he got was put together with a bunch of beat up transmissions and isn't working too well for him. He his going to replace the third gear in his old 6 speed and go back to that with the 4.3 fd. He's in OCMD this weekend, prob won't be on here!

I don't plan on driving to work everday. I plan on taking the metro for sure! The building ill be working at is about 1 block from dupont circle, and they don't have their own parking lot or anything like that.

I plan on coming home decently regularly to see friends and family. Being worried about my transmission isn't how i wanna live my life still haha .

On top of the fact that i am moving out of my parents house for the first time, i will be spending a hefty chunk of change on a place and furniture and what not. Im keeping the car so maybe things will happen again later, but at this point in time...just hanging out with bolt-ons is my best option IMO.

Meeting up sounds good, I would love to see your car!!

Well, originally i was supposed to start the 16th of this month. But i need Secret clearance before i can start. With the gov currently shutdown no one is processing my paperwork so i have good feelings it will be delayed a bit. Once that is back on track i will be staying in a hotel for a month on the companies dime then looking for a place from there!

So with this new clearance will you get your own neuralizer?

I just knew I was going to get one with my clearance when the FBI fingerprinted me, did a psychiatric evaluation on me, and they interviewed my friends personally.

But still no neuralizer! LOL

I gotcha. My dad's off from the government shutdown also. But that allowed him to go pick up my built motor yesterday from the machine shop. Lol. So that was about the only plus of the whole situation.

Its a good step up from me...I currently work as a regular helpdesk analyst in PA. I am going from level 1 support to on-site level 2 for a federal client. I will be a contractor for a bit but have high hopes to get hired on! I really hope all goes well, if not ill find another job down in DC where the market is vastly better than where i currently reside.

I wish i got a neuralizer would make life a lot easier!! LOL Im not getting anything crazy, just regular secret clearance, i had it before for a client, but i guess since i switch to another and am going back i need to go through alllllllllllllll of it again.

Its a big step in the right directly for my career for sure! It added a lot of complication to my life though since im not quite done with school. I might have to transfer to another school just to finish my degree but o well, I feel like id be missing out on a good opportunity if i declined to position!

I need to hit up your build thread, didn't know you got a built engine!1!!!

The swap shouldn't be to bad, i have a drop in ready swap sitting in my garage then i'm going to part out everything i have on the car currently! Selling and shipping everything will probably worse than the swap :giggle:

A little update. Got the car fired up last night, sounded good! a bit louder exhaust wise than the old build, but the engine is SOOOOOOOOO much quieter. The built engine had a deep deep drone to it also NO vibrations is heaven.

Got a bit more to finish up before it will be on the road again, Bump the coolant system, finish the intake install, put the bumper back on, put the new bumper liner thing in, change the fog light bulbs and toss the wheels on

Also the site is displaying very oddly on my work computer? just me or a site issue?
