Jaydee Autotech’s Twin Rotrex K24 Ariel Atom

This car originated in the UK as an Ariel Atom 2 with the 245bhp Honda K20 Type-R motor. It was purchased in 2004 by Open Wheeler Imports, Ariel’s agent in New Zealand and Australia. It was at the NZ Auckland motor show in 2004 and was used for customer demonstrations in NZ at Pukekohe Race Track.http://img600.imageshack.us/img600/6928/jaydee2.jpg

Jeff, from Jaydee Autotech, first looked at clubman-style kit cars but wanted something different. He wanted a supercar that he could drive on the road like a sports bike - super quick, but able to cruise nicely. Australia is filled with fun mountain roads, so this was the perfect choice. Jeff purchased the car in parts in 2006, and imported it to Australia. They re-engineered the seating, brakes, steering, modified and strengthened the chassis, fitted the roll-over hoop, sway bars, and a new motor - all to suit Australian ADR’s and their personal requirements.

After 3,000kms of testing and data logging using the Motec ADL2, a new 10” longer wheelbase chassis was designed and built. Better weight distribution, improved roll centers, as well as improved and strengthened suspension design were all achieved with stability improved. The original Atom had amazing cornering at 0.97G maximum. Now, cornering is over 1.6G on a windy road without being silly.

Engine development continued with the addition of a Rotrex Supercharger in 2007, and a Stepped header/twin pass muffler design in 2009. Currently, the Atom is armed with a custom twin Rotrex supercharger setup on a fully built K24. Engine specs are: 89 x 99mm bore/stroke, custom rods, 10.3:1 CR, oversized valves, CNC custom porting, custom inlet manifold, Skunk2 74mm throttle body, Clutch Masters clutch, custom Hytech exhaust, GearX close ratio gears, Jaydee developed and tuned Autronic SM4 ECU with custom 6 setting traction control, and Motec ADL2 Data Logging and Dash with control functions integrated between Motec ADL and Autronic SM4. The K24 idles and drives perfectly at low speed, returns excellent fuel consumption, and annihilates any car or motorcycle that comes next to it. Currently, the Jaydee Atom 600 produces an amazing 594whp on pump. Almost all of the car bodywork, molds, and components were produced by Jaydee (in New Gisborne), with some of the carbon parts made overseas.

With an extra 199whp and weighing in at only 1,366lbs (620kgs), the Jaydee Atom 600 has approximately 30% better power-to-weight ratio than the Ariel Atom V8. This makes the Australian-developed ‘Jaydee Atom 600’ the fastest Ariel Atom ever built. Drivability is made possible with comprehensive Traction Control and Flat Shift all programmed to suit the car. Not only is the Jaydee Atom 600 the only twin Rotrex Ariel Atom in the world, it’s also the only Atom in Australia. And this amazing build led to an even better monster, if you can believe it. It’s known as…

The “Jaydee Quantum” Supercar – The Fastest Supercar in Australia
Their goals were simple - to build a car in the mold of the current top sports bikes, like the Yamaha R1. The Jaydee Quantum Supercar is like no other vehicle around. It’s very streetable – it’s easy and friendly to drive at low speed, but capable of breathtaking performance. The Quantum will produce between 2 and 2.5G’s depending on speed, and its carbon-composite tube and alloy chassis is not only stiffer, but much lighter than the Jaydee Atom 600. Full CFD simulations indicate 600kgs of down-force compared to 150kgs of the Jaydee Atom 600. This way, the average person can experience a cruising supercar that can be daily driven, with the capability of F1-like acceleration. The Jaydee Quantum is customer configured with optional power outputs to suit your application. Customers can choose a power level for your needs, from 375whp-700whp!

Awesome wright up guys. I've followed this car for over the last year and he's truly an innovator. The car and it's performance make anyone that challenges it, speechless.

Holy shit! It's like strapping yourself to a rocket... or five. I never knew that you can make an Atom better! Yea, more power with a turbo or more mods with the supercharger, but a TWIN ROTREX setup? WTF?!!?! Insane coverage right here, speechless is definitely the best way to explain this. Huge props to Jaydee and BoostedK20 to getting such a great ROTM feature. Congrats Jaydee!

Thanks Dan for your great article, and all the complements from you guys. Its a really good summary of the project, and its good to look back at our progress.

Words really fail when it comes to explaining what its like in the car on full throttle. The Jaydee Atom 600 accelerates faster than a Motogp bike and is similar to a F1 car when they have burned off most of the fuel at 2/3 race distance. But this is serious when you are on normal roads compared to a track.

Passengers complain they cannot stop their feet lifting off the floor, and their chests hurt....These are the most common comments. Most people are shaking when they get out, even if the maximum speed experienced was under 65MPH. Its the acceleration rate that gets to them.

Cheers

^ My thought exactly. Can you imagine being in a car that you physically can't keep for feet on the ground under acceleration as a passenger? Imagine that feeling. I did the math, you'd need ~1850whp in a bugatti veyron to achieve the same power-to-weight ratio of this Jaydee Atom 600. INSANE

Plus you'd need traction for all 1800whp. Lol. Insane in the membrane

Fastest in what way... straight line? Around the Nuremberg (spelling from phone no idea) or is this just a numbers biggest HP battle?
