Well, here's an off topic build thread. After years of going through cheapo computers I've decided that I'm going to build my dream gaming PC. Since Tax season I've made it clear to myself not to spend a single dime of the money towards the car build since most of paycheck goes to that already.

Although it looks like not a lot of gamers on the forum, ill be updating this thread for my own tracking progress. So on to the build.

The computer is going to be a mild build as far as processing power goes as most of the invest will be in the Graphics cards to support a 2D surround setup.

Mod List so far:

Cosair Full Tower

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab225/ryaano18/008_zps5bf635d8.jpg

Much bigger than I need but since Im going to run dual Graphics Card in SLI, the extra venting will be helpful

ASUS Z87 Pro MotherBoard

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab225/ryaano18/003_zps04271ab9.jpg

Runs cooler than the standard boards as the heat sinks are more efficient. Also gives plenty of room if I ever need to convert it to water cooled since temperature is my biggest priority.

This board will let me run up to 32Gb of Ram but for gaming I only need 8GB, and can use up to 3 graphic cards, but I should be fine with 2 (or one really good GPU) for this build.

Intel i5 quad core 4670K

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab225/ryaano18/005_zps2dd14536.jpg

Great for gaming and very affordable. Almost got the i7 just because it was a really good deal and a better chip, but shouldnt make any difference for gaming between the two.

1TB WD Hard Drive 7200rpm

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab225/ryaano18/006_zpsa7dace14.jpg

More than double of what i need, but with the costs of hard drives so cheap, it would have been dumb to save $4 for getting 500GB instead. May upgrade to solid state, but for costs in just setting up this computer ill stick with a standard drive

Parts to come

EVGA GTX770 SuperClocked GPUS x2 OR... 1 EVGA GTX780 SuperClocked. Not sure yet, still researching

3 ASUS VN247H LED 24inch Monitors 1920x1080p This will literally put you in the game at 5760x1080p... in other words, 6ft wide monitor

Corsair Vengeance 4GB DDR3 1600 RAM x2

Corsair HX850w Power Supply (Those are some thirsty Graphic Cards, need to the power)

and depending on temp levels...

Corsair Water Cooler (works exactly like a car radiator but inside a computer)

Updates soon to follow :thumb:

Awesome! That's good to hear. Is your computer for gaming as well?

Nice specs, looks to be a promising build! I like the idea and effort. I'm going to be adding a second monitor (currently have and adding an Acer P186H) and adding a video card, but that's far from what you're doing. Honestly, I'd like to see liquid cooling and how you'd go about it! Just toss a fan and a W2A intercooler, it'll work great!

Repped

Thanks! lmao i think w2a might be a little overkill! Im pretty sure i won't need water cooling since i shouldnt have to overclock the cpu, it would be more of worst case scenario. But probably will get an upgraded fan until im able to check temps when the computer is up and running

I do some gaming, but a lot of streaming to twitch from my xbox360 and some editting. I dont play any of the high graphic games like battlefield though.

Gotcha, well you have a solid platform if you ever needed to upgrade!

Yeah I just upgraded some of the fans in the case to draw the warm air out. I used 2 corsair 140s and 2 160s along with the 3 that came with the case. Lol its overkill but the cpu does go over 90 degrees and a mobo stays high 70s and this is during full 720p streaming.

Well 90 degrees is not bad at all for the cpu, actually thats pretty chill lol, i think they are rated up to 150F~ continuous heat if I remember correctly. But going over kill on the fans never hurt anything lol

Well picked up some cash from a bag install I did so I had some extra cash to get some more parts! Woo!!!

Corsair HX850 Power Supply. This thing should power everything I need for a looooooooooooongggggg time!

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab225/ryaano18/001_zpsbaef8cdc.jpg

Corsair Vengeance DDR3 8GB Ram Cards (2x4GB). Man I forgot how expensive Ram is, glad i don't do photo editing!

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab225/ryaano18/002_zps91058387.jpg

and a standard nothing fancy blue ray optical drive if i ever decide to watch a movie on the computer.
http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab225/ryaano18/0032_zps69c5ee1f.jpg

So all that is left is my Graphics card and the monitors and then i can start assembly!

Awesome! That's great, I love the speedy progress. How beefy of a video card? I need a good one for a slim tower myself.

yea trying to finish this computer by the beginning of March so i can get back to the RSX. And for this computer I'm going to need a pretty beefy card which is holding me back because they are so expensive for the one i need.

What are you building the computer for? I could give you a few options on what to look for

Well the computer build is nearing completion! Cant wait to load up the Operating System!

Started assembling the computer on Saturday. I wanted to wait until I had the GPU but i probably won't be getting it until next weekend or so. In the mean I might as well put everything to together so the GPU will just plug right in!

I did pick up a Solid State Drive though just out of curiosity since i never used a computer with one before

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab225/ryaano18/0082_zps591b4819.jpg

This thing is super sleek, its only 120GB since I dont know if its completely worth the cost to have a really large SSD

So I started with the Mother Board, plugged up the Processor

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab225/ryaano18/0042_zps89a965f2.jpg

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab225/ryaano18/0052_zpsdaf1d0b7.jpg

Then the Ram
http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab225/ryaano18/0062_zps2d5e0537.jpg

Then threw everything in the case with the power supply and gave it quick wire tuck

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab225/ryaano18/010_zps7170ee7e.jpg

The two loose wires at the bottom are for the Graphics card(s). Still not sure if ima run two or just one but i left them both out for now until I decide. But other than that, the computer is just about complete!

Well first start up is a success!!! Ran into a couple of issues

1st: CPU Fan wasn't kicking and processor got HOT FAST
Solution: Fan blade got stuck on wire since I stretched it a little far. Re-ran the wire. Fixed.

2nd: Computer wasn't reading my 1TB hard drive though the BIOS knew it was there
Solution: HDD Partition went haywire during bootup (probably because of the SSD) downloaded a partition recover program and viola! Fixed.

3rd: Computer could not find WIFI
Solution: Missing driver. My fault for not double checking the drivers. Fixed.

Computer is now 100% operational and functions perfect with all updated drivers and anti-virus on Windows 7 64-bit

Just waiting for my monitors and graphics card (which I decided on the GTX780 Superclocked) and when my pre-order of Titanfall to arrive for some noob pwning :)

Nice problem solving! I always panic at first when something doesn't work properly when installing new computer parts. Then I remember that I need to update the driver(s) and all is better. :thumb: Looking forward to the monitor widescreenage!

Something fun arrived :upsidedownparty:

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab225/ryaano18/001_zps35f36c88.jpg

Got too excited and set them up really quick for a test fit before heading to class

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab225/ryaano18/003_zps8a5274b0.jpg

Took some tinkering to get all 3 monitors going since i dont have a graphics card but I finally got it up and running. The quality so far is not the best due to just using the onboard video output and I CANT setup up 5760x1080p without the graphics card either but it does allow me to multi-task

Here it is with all 3 of my favorite forums :)

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab225/ryaano18/005_zpsbd4afb55.jpg

Ignore the rats nest, just tossed everything together to check the monitors for dead pixels. Will need to take everything down anyways when I get the graphics card so ill do a wire tuck then.

almost there and almost time for TitanFall!!
